Makes me feel treated like an idiot who can't retain information from one chapter to the next.
Don't get me wrong. The suspense is very well crafted and heart pounding moments abound.
But the editing is also terrible as I have found a number of grammatical errors which is unacceptable. An author is a story teller and can be forgiven the odd error, but a good editor will catch these errors.

However, as with many series, reading them in order gives the reader a much better continuity for the characters that continue from book to book.(less)

Why was Kate put under the bann? My understanding, and the book's glossary agrees, is that only those Amish who are baptized can be excommunicated (or put under the bann). Kate notes that she chose to not be baptized so how does the bann apply to her?
