He uses a lot of slang and concepts that you just have to figure out as you go into the world he has created, as the story progresses you will understand the details. Think of visiting a foreign country, where you barely know the language and none of the cultural mores; you just have to listen to what people say very closely to follow the subject matter.

I have read nearly everything Gibson ever wrote, I just started his newest book and had to remind myself how to read them, I kept getting hung up on the fact that I did not know what was happening and worrying that I had missed something obvious, but no, you just need to read and enjoy the ride!(less)

Neuromancer has a plot, characters with personalities, and a world that feels full. Or to put it more simply, Gibson wrote an actual story, as opposed to a giant warning full of metaphors. They jus…moreGibson's stories after the Sprawl trilogy really got a lot more tamed down (I think) and perhaps less interested in cyberpunk and technology. They just have a different feel and to me the writing is much less exciting. I very much did not enjoy most of his 90's output (though I may revisit some)

However, I have really enjoyed his last two books - The Peripheral and Agency, which share a world. (less)

Re-reading "Neuromancer" for the god-knows-whatth-time, I noticed that Molly barely uses her claws "onscreen." We often see the aftermath of her claw fights, like the body with missing eyes during the Sense Net run, but the only time we see her claws is when she's using them for mundane things, like cutting off her polycarbon suit, or showing her claws off to Case. Um, anyone else find that odd?
