How far do you have to read before you understand who the characters are, and what they have to do with the story? I have to admit I am so confused. A year-old toddler, a 17-year-old -- are they related? Fathered by the same man? I do wish the author had signposted the people -- he is such and such, she is such and such, and so forth. As it is I am trying to work it out for myself and getting irritated.
