I first started to realize it in 2016, when the Republican Party morphed into the Knothead Party under the 45th President. But by the end of 2020, ravaged by the very sorts of riots Percy expected, with the Catholic Church almost openly splitting into three, with our national spiritual malaise deeper than ever... I'm now half-convinced that Percy wrote this book after a prophetic dream.(less)

Who is Art Immelmann? I've read this a few times and he baffles me. I'm thinking that he may be of the devil. He knows way more than he should. He always shows up without any warning and he seems to be in two place at a time. He finally leaves after the doc utters a prayer. Is he a devil?

Immelmann's basic inability to understand most of the physical world is a tip. He's a fallen angel; to Catholic Percy, the Devil has no material form and no experience with eating or drinking or sex, except as a way of tempting the humans he hates.

But the giveaway clue is the "scent of brimstone" that tends to follow Art around.(less)
