I think the main reason why Annie on My Mind was banned is that it was LGBTQ+.

Gay right organization named Project 23 gave some copies of Annie on My Mind to junior high and high school libraries in several Kansas school districts in 1993. The superintendent Ron Wimmer ordered schools to turn down the donations and remove the library books for ten years.

Maybe the superintendent Ron Wimmer found the books sexually explicit. But I am not even in high school and I find this book not sexually offending at all. (less)
