In the second book it was said that Benkai offered to marry the khagan's nephew—not niece—so I think that's confirmation enough that he's gay. But again the brothers are not prominent characters even though the book centers around Shiori's family dynamic.

I liked this duology but it's not going to be my first choice for lgbtq rep, although I still recommend it if you like East Asian-inspired fantasy :)(less)
