Is it necessary to have read the Chronos Files series before this one or can you start with this one?

Some of it's confusing and there's clearly a LOT of backstory to all (most?) of the characters…moreI read this book as the first one of Walker's I'd read. Some of it's confusing and there's clearly a LOT of backstory to all (most?) of the characters you'll meet. I had a hard time keeping track of everyone's grandparents and etc but the story coheres fine without it, you'd just have to gloss over not really knowing who some people are, except that they might be important in some other story.(less)
