Here's the part I don't get: It just doesn't seem plausible that Connie would be allowed to go get the journals. If they were to be used as possible evidence would the courts really allow the 14 y/o daughter of the defendant to go fetch them? Shouldn't there have been an officer of the court present to insure the integrity of the situation? I don't get how this could have been allowed by the judge and/or attorneys

I've read this book and loved it! So this is a recommendation--I want to read it again. Do you have books or movies that you enjoy more than once? Some are comfort books and some you just want to get more from the story.That's how I feel about this book. Lifetime made a movie starring Sissy Spacek as the Midwife which was great, but the book is almost always better. Shirl

Then my Book Group chose it for our February 2021 read, so I reread it, and was glad I did. It's definitely intense, and a page-turner at times. I think it does reflect the concerns of the 1980's and 90's somewhat, but it was still a good book.(less)

I'm wondering what alternative Sybil had if she was 100% positive that Charlotte was dead? Something had to be done quickly or both Mom and baby would have died. Would that have been a better alternative?? Even if Charlotte was technically alive, what should Sybil have done?

Jan Save the baby, because that was more of a possibility.
