The main character, Ciela, is pansexual (and there are some beautifully written parts about that fact).

Her best friend Jess, whom she formerly dated, is a lesbian who gets an adorable love interest, so there is a developing background f/f relationship.

There are also references to the pan erasure Ciela experiences because of that f/f relationship with Jess, ie. Ciela being seen & called a lesbian by some of her peers, even when she shows attraction to a boy.

There are other background characters, like a super sweet older m/m couple, as well as queer culture references like going to Pride and romantic gay picnics.

Overall, it is a very queer book that does a great job of showing intersections of sexuality, gender, race, and sexual violence through Ciela's experiences.(less)

I think because of the sexual assault, it would be best for teens 15 and up. Although, sexual assault survivors come in all ages, so I'm unsure whether it'd be best to prevent a younger survivor from reading this book (if they were interested, of course) because of the topic.(less)

Within the book, Ciela often references the fairy tale (in its Spanish name, La Reina de las Nieves) in relation to herself & what she is experiencing. There is related figurative language (ice, snow, etc) used throughout (less)
