Just painful to read so I switched to audio - still painful. The only reason I persist is that I started with the Gunslinger when SK could still write and I feel the need to finish. Everything he inserts himself into the story "Oh and then Stephen King did this or that" I just say 'oh shut up' and feel better. What happened to the man who wrote Wizards and Glass? He is sober I think.

I cried too. I still laugh at myself about Wizards and Glass when Susan Delgado died. I was listening in the car and starting crying - hard. LOL. I am an adult woman going to my job and BLUBBERING in the car on the LA freeway in traffic. But THAT is what SK used to be able to do. Develop a character so you blubbered when he killed them. We remember Oy from all his adventures through the series and so his death was the end of the innocence. (less)

I saw a discussion group about this book, though I cant find it again. Everyone was discussing what part addiction played in the saga as a whole, but they were all acting like Roland was not to be added to the list of "addicts" because he was driven by the desire to win the battle and save the worlds. I would argue that Roland is the biggest addict of them ALL! He keeps his ka-tet together and moving toward HIS goal?
