In either Sullivan's Island or Return to Sullivan's Island she discusses with someone the difference between using "dinner" and "supper" and why the south uses (used) supper, I believe. I looked for it to re-read and now I cannot find it. I'm at the end of "Return to Sullivan's Island" for the second time :) Is anyone familiar with this passage?

Many of …moreYes, I made a mental note of that too. I grew up in the south (Tennessee). When growing up, we always referred to the evening meal as supper. Many of my friends not from our area called the evening meal dinner. It definitely is a southern expression. A lot of our language is a mixture of Scottish and African. The Scotch-Irish located in this area because of the mountains and available land.(less)
