Is this novella answering a philosophical question about life and existence through a psychological conception-emotional detachment? I feel the character is vacant and going through a psychological flat affect. He is indifferent about himself and his surroundings. Am I the only one that feels The Stranger has a similar feel to it as The Catcher in the Rye? Clearly the Stranger is written by stronger author but there appears to be a connection or a sense of commonality that I can't quite put my finger on.
