Dale Pearl asked:

Am I the only one that feels The Stranger has a similar feel to it as The Catcher in the Rye? Clearly the Stranger is written by stronger author but there appears to be a connection or a sense of commonality that I can't quite put my finger on.

Chelsea That is because Camus was inspired by American authors popular at his time. Hemmingway, Faulkner, Cain...these authors take a very minimalist approach to language: say as much as you can with as few words as possible in a single sentence. It also helps that the translator (Matthew Ward) is a poet.
Trey Mann I immediately had the same thought.
Tina Regli I had the exact same feeling!
Marija MB Yes, I felt the same when I started reading it.
