The Bones Criers are the ones that "must sacrifice"? But what they sacrifice is not the ability to love, but the life of another. So the only ones doing the sacrificing are the poor blokes taking it in the neck. Am I missing something here?

So in theory they wouldn't fall in love again. In addition, based on the summary's use of the words "tradition" and "rite of passage" my guess its purely done out of ceremony. Kinda like the head of the household has to get rid of any possible "distractions". So its like representing choosing duty above all else. But that part is just my prediction. But I gotta agree the one doing the dying has the worst part of the deal.(less)
