It opens up your mind to some of the horrors of war (both physical and mental injuries and the aftermath of said injuries) without going into gory detail that would unsettle a young teen mind.

Of course, not all 12-year-olds are similar, but, generally speaking, there is nothing in this book that would hurt them. Yes, it talks about the physical horrors of the Great War, but that is just a reality of life. There is no offensive language and no sex in this book. On the contrary, it displays a healthy romantic interest within the life of Maisie Dobbs. It certainly is better than other things that I 12-year-old could read.(less)
