How did antagonist Quinn survive Reacher's assassination of him ten years earlier? Quinn just shows up, but no explanation of his survival was ever provided.

William Dykhuis Reacher used a 22 which is a small caliber handgun. The slugs were deflected by skull bones and so didn’t penetrate the brain.

At one point in the story Reacher is asked "You get a pension?" and responds "No". He was in the Army and I thought all retired Army folks get a pension, is that incorrect? (Excuse my ignorance about the military).

Maria Rose from the other books, it is made known that he does receive a pension, which he didn't first receive when he left the service, but one of his team dea…morefrom the other books, it is made known that he does receive a pension, which he didn't first receive when he left the service, but one of his team dealt with the paperwork issue and got his pension settled and invested so he'll not have funds. But in this book, the reason he made that answer was part of his faking his background as less than perfect and needing to earn some money to get hired by the family to go along with the fake background on file for him for them to check.(less)
