Romance: 0.5 ( Lovely potrayal of a sisterly-love between Saego and Sirscha, how there loyalty runs deep and is very heartfelt! There are more possible hints that Theyen could be a love-interest for Sircha! Meilek could be a possible love-interest too! might happen in the future , but there is no romance! )
Horror: 0 ( no super scary scenes, and a 12 year old can handle it )
Plot Twists: 3 ( Pretty good plot twists that unfold in a graceful way!
Pacing: 5 ( Great pacing very fast-paced and even! )
Positive Message: 3 ( Message about finding acceptance in yourself, loyalty, and figuring out where your loyalty lies. )

( If you read book 1 this should be fine! I was wondering the same question because I'm transitioning from MG-YA ! This got reviews of 14+ so I was very wary, but I don't actually think this was 14+ ( I'm a sensitive reader ( when it comes to romance ) and this was fine, there is no romance, but the plot is really good! (less)
