From what I could remember, there wasn't explicit content.
A middle schooler might be able to read it, but whether or not they'd enjoy it, or find it relevant, is another question.(less)

This book is a trilogy, does it has continuous story in each book? Or is it okay to read only Book 1 or maybe start the book in Book 2?
