The gators use toilets/sewers to travel quickly to different locations, but most of the jokes revolve around wordplay, not "gross out" humor. There's some, but it's pretty mild in my opinion (granted, I am the author.) The recommended age is 7-10, and if your kid loves to read, then I'd think this should be right up his alley(gator). There are more books in the series coming, so if he likes it he'll soon have plenty more to read!(less)
