Thoroughly enjoyed "Old Bones", it was an engrossing read with believable characters that lead you along a familiar story. My question is : How much of the Donner Party story in "Old Bones" is historically accurate? I've heard of this incident but have never researched or studied it.

How did the writer deal with the fact of a 20 gap between the publication of 'Thunderhead' and this sequel? Do the newer books take place in the past soon after the events of 'Thunderhead' or in the present day?
