Is it required to read the first book in order to read this one?

Chris Tracy Yes. The first book introduces the characters and they refer to the events multiple times.

is it apropriate for ya readers i mean it is a horror book made for 10 year old will it be obvious when u read it that it is so or is it written for both?

Alise I think it is Obvious it is written for middle grade. I actually think the first one was scarier but I still really enjoyed this book!
