Anyone else have a really hard time getting Into this book? I've read like 20% and just feel totally lost... I want the good book that everyone has bragged about. Does it all come together as I read or...? Should I just quit?

There are basically 14 or more books in this series, do they all revolve around 1 pair of characters? or do they switch and kind of bounce around from one pair to another? and the series seem a little long, is it interesting all the way through? i'm a little tipsy on reading these series, can someone help me out please?
