i also miss robert b parker's books. it was kind of a relief from books that were deep and required your full attention. parker had a way of entertaining you without requiring that degree of concentration that somehow became mind numbing. his faux authors don't seem to have that ability. is there another author with that kind of ability?

. Shares the repartee and cynicism, the crimes are well constructed and reported. Although set in 2060~ there is little futuristic components - there are off-planet populated "stations, moon" and like Star Trek, it doesn't get in the way, as it is set in a somewhat similar New York City. They are police stories.(less)

I too have decided to read Parker's 1st book, and, I also miss his writing so very much. I'm trying to give Ace Atkinson's a chance, but, it's been difficult; he get's Parker but not quite- Can someone point me in the direction of another mystery writer that simulates Parker's wit?

Sharon Foust I agree. Ace is not quite there to match Parker. I think it is that Ace is not from Boston. Boston is so ingrained in Parker.
