That said, Nina didn't want that. And yes, she wanted space and ended up breaking up with Tom.

Was Tom a toxic person? No, I don't think so. It's completely understandable for Tom to want some time away from Nina after he has been dumped. (In your words, ghosting.)

I can imagine how dejected and frustrated he would be. He only wanted to be there for her. It was clear to him that Nina was too busy for the relationship, remember all the times he tried to get a date and failed. It was also clear to Tom that Nina couldn't handle having him around during her attacks, despite how much he wanted to help her.

That all said, I'm not sure how else someone could think he's being a toxic person.
