From my interpretation, Cooper and Park were *not* supposed to be a couple by the end of Book 1 (Wolf at the Door). Remember, they initially just started out being sexually interested in each other, not romantically. They had only just slept with each other twice by the end of book 1, and that does not make a relationship. Furthermore, Park is a private to even secretive person and Cooper is emotionally repressed. All told, they definitely were not in a concrete relationship by the end of the first book and at the start of this one, they haven't even confirmed their relationship status, if they even have one. Personally, I think this book was more about getting to see some of Cooper's personal history, and for he and Park to take the steps towards actually *knowing* each other as people. While book 1 had a lot of fun banter that gives the illusion of them being close, they didn't know each other at all. This book was about them taking those steps to actually pursue a relationship and break down those walls between them hiding their vulnerable parts and their emotions. (less)
