Many of the books on the Goodreads Giveaway program are ARC's. The books are usually marked as an advanced copy and might not be the complete formatting that the published book will have, can contain errors, etc.(less)

I see that this got shelved as LGBT, can someone elaborate on the level of lgbt representation in this? I'm trying to only read books with relevant lgbt characters this year and I'm wondering if this fits the criteria.

The story is not about his gender, but his gender is an important part of his identity that comes up repeatedly, in descriptions of his decision-making and emotions and in his relationships with several other characters.

As a trans woman, I really valued and was fascinated by the way Leckie portrays people with diverse and nuanced attitudes toward gender in a familiar-feeling fantasy setting. That portrayal of trans people and the people around them navigating complex conversations about gender without modern vocabulary was intensely interesting to me. (less)
