Some of the topics covered, like misogyny and sexual assault in the scientific community or the devastation of cancers, might warrant a more cautious approach.

Personally, I'm very liberal in what I would consider appropriate reading matter. I'd have no problem recommending this to my niece, who's 13.

If you're looking to introduce some of these topics to a class, then it's a matter of reading the essays and judging for yourself how appropriate they are (or how much the local school board will tolerate, which could be very little depending upon where you live in the US [my bailiwick]).(less)
