Was anyone else instantly turned off in the first 2-3 pages by the graphic sadism, including against children?

I picked up the audio book read by Richard Ferrone at a yard sale, but the description of the book makes it sound more like a creepy suspense thriller than a mystery. I'm more a Janet Evonovich Mystery reader than James Patterson and my question is, do I just give the tape away, or dare begin?

I started this read as an audiobook and find it very disturbing. I love mysteries such as those written by Baldacci, Connelly but I couldn't read Harlan Coben, I found him too descriptively gory. Is this a book for me or should I move on?
Sandra Move on. Harlan has a touch of humor in his book. Sanford throws some into his later books. Try Stabenow..based in Alaska. Best to read in order.

ok so am I meant to believe that we thought he was a clerk but turns out he's a lawyer and then the biggest stretch is that they figured out who he was just by virtue of the fact that he facilitated a purchased transaction for a client? This is my first John Sandford and I committed to reading them all in order but will the whole lot of them be like this?

And they didnt catch him because he facilitated a purchase. They caught him because he was the lawyer for the guy whose gun went missing. Well, that and the description of the car, the southwest accent, the height, the weight, the description of the hair...(less)
