Major characters from the previous two stories appear here, but only as minor characters. There are no infodumps explaining how the world works, but I think that's all to the good. More important, this story is much more tightly focused than the other two, so you don't actually need to know how much of the world works. What you do need to know, I think you can easily figure out from context. (E.g. characters work magic by accessing "the slack.")
