If you read that scene closely where Kane is following Eddie and Holten, it says the guard has his …moreI just read this book and stumbled on this thread. If you read that scene closely where Kane is following Eddie and Holten, it says the guard has his back toward Kane so he couldn’t tell who it was. He was interested in the laptop. It didn’t specifically say he was trying to kill Holten. It also said he had “contacts” in the law firm. I think the wording was vague enough not to infer that Kane wanted to kill Holten but more importantly get to the laptop. What wasn’t said was maybe Kane suddenly recognized Holten and that is why he didn’t go through with his plan. Also the judge showed up. The wording is vague enough that multiple things could be inferred.(less)
