She talked about the need to feel accepted by her peers. This is a great conversation starter to have with a middle schooler about getting involved in groups to feel a part of something even if the group does things that are wrong. (less)

I first learned about Hans and the White Rose movement while I was in Crailsheim in 2017. That's what drew me to this book. The descriptions of their resistance are real, but as for the other action, who really knows? There were so many kinds of resistance during WWII that it would not be surprising to find similar types of resistance did happen in many places.(less)
Kathleen Brandt Hans and Sophie School are historical figures, but I suspect Franka and John are purely fictional.
