He's just like my husband. I thought it was a realistic portrayal of a gentle, understanding, supportive man, and a male feminist. I really liked that he did seem to find ways to stand up for himself and figure out what his limits were (because that's definitely a struggle for people of such an others focused nature), but that wasn't in opposition to his gentle and supportive nature. It's not very often I see a guy who's so much like my husband in a book, so I really appreciated a story about a different guy....he was one of my favorite male fiction characters, actually. (less)
Zoe Barlow I noticed this because I was listening to an audio book of this whilst reading. The book said Mary Walters but the audio book said Mary Rafferty.
Jessica I would say at least 18. Adult subject matter and language.

Lexie thought that Annie was broken because Lexie had left home, but in actuality Annie was broken due to the abuse that she received at home and the constant feeling of being unworthy of any value to anyone. Once Lexie came to terms with all of that, she was able to let Annie go. Again, just my interpretation.

And Kelly Rimmer is Australian. Exclusive Brethen, while Wikipedia says it’s also located in North America and Europe, all I could find online (including pictures and escape stories) are from Australia and New Zealand. There is a population of roughly 45,000 in Australia of EBs. The “head” of the cult apparently owns the largest house in Australia and owns multiple private planes. Huh. Rimmer did write of the book’s cult that it had world wide presence and very wealthy higher ups. I think she had it take place in Alabama (and Illinois) due to that one law about in-vitro chemical danger. Great author and great research. (less)
