Its driving me CRAZY! Movie in my head?! Yes sure but in MY head thank you very much. Not in my ears. Please tell me where to find your plain nasal narrated version because this drama-fest is sooo hard to listen too. (less)

The Demon Cycle gets better the further you get into it; not that the beginning was bad by any means but Brett really surprised me with where he took this series.
I think it is always a mistake to compare one series to another; WoT, GoT, and this series are all very, very different but are all very good in their own right.(less)

I would like to clarify the statements from Alysse. Firstly, there are many more references to sex and rape then there is actually sex and rape. So far I believe there have been no explicit sex scenes (someone having sex behind closed door and sounds can be heard but not overly focused on) and there are discussions on rape and the possibility of rape as well as one potential rape which is avoided.
This may very well get more explicit later, but so far there is certainly nothing I would consider vulgar or disgusting and I've been accused of being a reasonably conservative person.(less)

Name of the Wind heavily revolves around the story of a single protagonist, it is very much 'his story'. I'm only about half way through the first book of the Demon series but this focuses on three key individuals, and of course the immediate events and people around them which shape who they are and what they will ultimately become. In that sense, very much like NotW.
Apart from that, the stories themselves are quite different, but both are equally good in describing a world and the people living in it. Both provide a sense of dangers beyond those immediately visible and hidden plots and twists.
Basically, what I'm getting at is, if you enjoyed Name of the Wind, this is definitely worth a try.(less)
