I tried to read the book years ago and found it on the slow/boring side, so I never continued past the first book. Is the graphic novel better?

What is the difference between the graphic series and the regular series? I just bought book one of the regular series..I tried to read the regular series years and years ago but only made it to book 3 before I got bored and confused..should I return it and exchange it for the graphic series? which one is better?
