Steven King has a tendency to overly indulge in his characters in the first book. He does it a time or two in the subsequent books. Press on through those and enjoy the story line. Soon you will be looking forward to the other books. The story just keeps getting better.

Man the first book is trash but I was told to keep going and Man look the Dark Towers and the Game of Thrones series is the best thing ever written. By the second book of DT it picks up but the 3-7 books are explosive like nothing I ever read.

read the first book, it ll be hard and you ll be bored, but after the first 50 pages of the second, you ll finish all the series and will ask for more, trust me on this.
