Is this too mature for a read-aloud for younger kids around 4-8 years old? I'm not concerned that they may not understand so much as that I don't want to read anything that would be more scary or disturbing than your typical children's book for their age group.

The first thing I note when I look at this cover is the black shape on the background. I didn’t notice the two girls but the space between them that looks like chest-neck-head of a women (?) I think... Did anyone else noticed that too?

Heidi I didn't notice the woman's head until you pointed it out!
