In book one Michael's wife had just died and Mary Catherine was only in the picture as a nanny, not a romantic interest. Their relationship developed nicely over the ten book's story lines.(less)

Anyone else annoyed that Brian went from helping his friend get away from drug dealing to becoming a drug dealer? Guess the new author didn’t read all the previous books and totally stuffed it up.
Millie Same! I was so shocked at that development! Made no sense at all and I felt highlighted the fact that Patterson co-wrote with a different author.

Brian probably got a minimum of 10 years because the drugs he was selling were controlled substances. And because he was used as an example of getting tough on drugs by the DA at that specific time, he is not getting out early. I assume this was pre- the No Bail No Charge, No Record On File present-day prosecution in NYS(less)
