This book can be read on its own and you'd probably enjoy it; however, you'd get a better feel for the town and the characters after reading the previous eight books. The books all add up to let you get to know who everyone is and how things came to be.(less)

That being said though, I wouldn't go any younger than late teens or a mature mid-teenager.(less)
