Harry Bosch on Amazon tv takes parts from some of his books and uses them for the plots. He only uses parts and sometimes takes parts from a couple of books in one episode. All very good. All books and all 4 seasons very enjoyable (less)

Nonetheless Bosch notices cigarette butts as a possible clue. He will sometimes note the brand and whether they're filtered or unfiltered, in case he comes across them again in his investigation. For example, if he interviews someone later as a person of interest and he sees they carry the same variety of cigs that were in the ashtray at Meadows', it raises Harry's interest -- for example, was this person at Meadows' apartment?, etc.

This thing with Harry taking notice of the cigarettes, whether at a crime scene or in someone's possession, recurs throughout the book series.
