I've based this novel on my parents' true story. They were Army Dr. and Army nurse in WW2, and they left me over 600 letters, tied in boot strings and untouched since 1945. Anyone else the kid of WW2 parents?

W…moreI enjoyed your book very much, especially having grown up in Hamilton myself, with Dr. Daley and Nurse Dorothy to take care of us when we were sick. We lived there from 1968-1978, and one of my sisters still lives there.

I found the stories fascinating, and had a hard time believing any of it was fictional. You told your parents’ story beautifully. It made me wish I could go back in time and ask Dr. Daley a lot of questions!

A funny story about your dad: I think it was in 3rd grade when I went through a phase of not wanting to go to school. My mom knew I wasn’t sick (I didn’t know this at the time), and she must have been in cahoots with Dr. Daley, because he gave me THE WORST TASTING lime-flavored medicine ever! When I was old enough to understand the psychology behind it, my mom told me it wasn’t really medicine at all. I wasn’t supposed to like it, so I would decide to go to school, rather than submit myself to that stuff. To this day, I can’t stand the smell of lime. Haha! Dr. Daley had a wonderful sense of humor.
