Can this book stand alone, or should I read the other 3 before it? I want to read them all eventually, but this is the only one I own at the moment.

There are other used books available on Amazon of this edition that contains all three books. I agree with Lyn, this 4th book does stand alone, but there is a progression of the main characters that is probably best enjoyed if read in sequence. It's also interesting to follow the progress of the authors writing style.
