The first chapter read like a fantasy ripoff of the Divergent series, and I put it down. There are so many good revs that I thought I would give it another shot. Is there any original content here from any other readers of the Divergent series?

That aside Divergent was at best a rough romance novel with hokey sci-fi plot points.

I this a YA book? Would it be suitable for a 13yr old?
Harrison Hogan I think a 13yr old should be fine. There is a lot of fighting and violence. It is not grotesque but fighting is a major component of the series.
