However, more recently the word "bloody" has become a comparatively mild expletive or intensifier. So around the 1800s when this book is set, it was a very salty word that might be common among sailors. But also Jack's clothes end up covered in blood at certain points in the book. (less)

I would think a guy might find a connection with some of the makes who are woven in and out of the story but none of them remain constantly in focus. On the other hand, the revelation of how a gal interprets her male surroundings might prove interesting. (less)
