Does the dog survive? I have students who can't emotionally handle animal deaths in books. I would hate to recommend this to one of them if the dog didn't make it.

As the dog gets chemo treatment, the dog gets tired and as a reader you hear about the dog slowing down but then a bit later the dog perks up and wants to go for walks again and has energy again- there is this up and down in his treatment. It's a wonderful relationship between the boy and the dog. (less)
