I'm not quite through reading this book which I've enjoyed a lot, my first McGinty/Sean Duffy book. I've been wondering about the extreme alcoholism displayed via DI Duffy's daytime drinking. I've known a few alcoholics in my time but I find the notion of a policeman who drinks throughout the day a little disconcerting. I'm thinking he'd be in rehab or seriously under orders to either dry out or leave the RUC?

Very entertaining and a little 'faction' in that you learn a little about the troubles and demographics as well. Your observations are real and once you get a little further into the books you'll note that Duffy doesn't mind the drugs and / or short term relationships either! It's all part of the plot but also makes the story more credible with these real life attributes. My advice - keep an open mind, leave your inhibitions behind and enjoy the ride!(less)
