How depressing is this story? Publisher's Weekly Review called it devastating. I enjoy books with interesting character development and can handle sad parts as long as I gain some positive experiences along with the characters. For example, I really enjoyed The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, but found its sequel The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy very depressing.

It's a story about the interconnectedness of life: a boy's death creates this web of human connections that cause several people's lives to become more meaningful. It's absolutely beautiful.(less)

I'm about a third of the way through the audio book...I'm not sure it's worth continuing. Tell me it gets better?

I would also put it in the same class as The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and A Man Called Ove. It's a wonderful story about courage and redemption and acceptance and.... I stayed up way too late a few nights because I just couldn't turn it off. And I cried at the end.(less)

Why was the boys name never revealed? My book club read the book and discussed it tonight. There was one suggestion but we want to hear it from you. He was more like a pure entity or spirit who helped all of the people he touched become more alive. Did your book club come to a similar conclusion? (I loved this book, also.)(less)
