I'm looking for more books similar to this one! Specifically, I am looking for memoirs of those who have grown up in rough neighborhoods. To be even more specific I am particularly interested in the memoirs of black men and women and am interested in neighborhoods in New York. Whatever suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated. And not really related because we know how it ends, but Kevin Hart's book touches on his life in Philly and how he lived before breaking into comedy. In the book she referred to her husband as Michael and her son as Michael, Jr - but then at the end her husband was Garrett and son was Garrett, Jr. Are different husbands and sons? I'm confused.

I think this is a great book for a youth book club. There is a positive message; the story is hard to put down; there is so much that can be discussed after reading.(less)
