(Her own personal history as a student of British History has provided the framework for each of her characters.) Her novels about this historical period in England tell the stories through the eyes of the women. She's clear that she has had to interpolate some day-to-day details based on her historical knowledge of the period. To me, the women's lives become believable. Each one is richly detailed and the moments feel intimate. I feel as though I'm experiencing life as lived at that time (and it's not always that "romantic"!) I agree with Gergana and Mary Kay that some of the later books seem similar, but then the lives of women at the time was pretty prescribed. (less)

She does have great knowledge about the Tudor period, but all of her books are historical fiction. If you want a writer that deals with non-fiction I would suggest Alison Weir. Her books are non-fiction, she has great resources in the back of each book to tell the reader where this information comes from, and her points are really good. I would also suggest David Starkey's The Six Wives of Henry VIII. He is another non-fiction writer of the Tudor period.(less)
