Does this book stand alone in the series? I'm interested in reading it because its a Newbery winner, but not inclined to read four other books first if this one stands alone well.

This isn't a question so much as a nitpicky comment about the book's description here on Goodreads (and I'm not sure where else to go with it): It's not "the sword OF Dyrnwyn," it's "the sword, Dyrnwyn." So I guess my question is, can someone please fix that error?

I'm not a big fantasy reader-- Should I slog through the whole series to get to this Newbery winner? It was worth it with Dark is Rising series and with Blue Sword/Hero and the Crown. Maybe I just answered my own question?

This series is one of the best, and most underrated children's books EVER. In my opinion, it's almost as good as Harry Potter. The fifth book is the best, but you won't find yourself slogging through the rest of them to get to it at all, since it's a GREAT series. Each book is deserving of much more recognition than they get. I'd also like to mention the second book was a Newberry Honor book, and it's one of the best as well.(less)
