Do I need to read the other books first?

Elros No, it is not connected in any essential way. I read it first (of the seven dreams) and it blew me away.

How do you read this book ? I'm 50 pages in and am lost with the indentations. What am I missing ? I have read all the other dreams with exception of The Rifles and am 100% vested in Vollman and the Seven Dreams.
